The cleaner greener manicure

I thought I would share with you some of the products I am currently using to achieve polished looking nails. I have named this the cleaner greener manicure because in truth a truly natural nail varnish does not yet exist, there are plenty of choices available that exclude some of the main nasties that are reported to be in nail varnish, lot's of brands (including some mainstream) now exclude formaldehyde, toluene and phthalates with others also excluding formaldehyde resin and camphor too.

Yarok Feed your youth hair and scalp serum

I am a really big fan of oils for my face and my body but have recently become a big fan of different oils for my hair. I always use coconut oil once a week as a deep treatment, but often during the week my hair and scalp craves some moisture but I don't have time for a heavy oil. That's where this gorgeous Feed your youth hair serum* from Yarok has been an absolute life saver.

La Claree Oliv skincare review

I recently received some sample pots from the French brand La Claree Oliv to try. It's a brand that I haven't tried before but have always been curious about, so I was pleased to have a chance to test these out. The brand uses botanical ingredients many of which are organic to deliver highly effective formulations, it's signature ingredient is olive leaf extract which fights free radical damage to the skin.

Dr Hauschka bronzing palette review

A little while ago I was lucky enough to win a Limited edition and sold out bronzing palette from Dr Hauschka courtesy of the lovely ladies at I am into this I know it is perhaps a bit cruel to write about this beauty when you can't get your hands on it any more, but I have a feeling that the lovely people at Dr Hauschka will release this again next spring (or at least I really hope so!).

REN Satin Perfection BB cream review

One pump lightly blended with fingers.

I have never owned a BB cream before, yes I know that makes me sound a bit behind the times as now the trend is for CC creams, but I am not one to jump on trends just for the sake of it. Since switching to natural products I have stuck almost exclusively with my powder foundations, I have tested lot's of natural foundations and tinted moisturisers but mostly have been unimpressed for one reason or another, nothing made a good enough impression for me to buy a full size.

When I heard that REN was launching a BB cream I knew that I would want to test it. REN is one of my favourite brands. It is what I would call a cleaner brand, yes they do use some synthetics and preservatives but their products are fantastic and they are loved by lot's of beauty bloggers who don't generally use natural products. They avoid a host of ingredients that are bad for the skin and are environmentally conscious when it comes to their packaging and policies. They include lot's of lovely natural ingredients and they make formulations that are generally very effective.

This BB cream is Silicone free and has colour adaptive technology, REN's formulations are always on the cutting edge of science for a more natural brand and this is no exception as it is a world first. The cream is for light to medium skins and whilst I was sceptical to say the least about it's colour adaptive technology, you can see from the swatch above that what starts out as an Umpa Lumpa coloured cream melts and blends into the skin perfectly. It is perfect for the summer months as it is light and fresh on the skin, I also find it perfect for when I want to look fresh but don't want a full face of make up.

The coverage is light but can be built up where needed. I have found the best application technique to be using my fingers, where I need extra coverage I take a small amount of product and pat it into the skin. It has a lovely fresh citrus scent which runs through the rest of radiance range too. It has SPF 15 which is an added bonus but I always wear a separate SPF underneath it anyway.

Some of the natural extracts in the product are Flurophores from Noni which boost elastin, Antileukine from seaweed to protect against UV damage, Tocotrienols from Artic cranberry seed oil which are anti-oxidants and Vitamin C for added radiance.

Ingredients:
Aqua (Water), Caprylic/ Capric Triglyceride, Zinc Oxide, Oleyl Alcohol, Camelia Oleifera Seed Oil, Titanium Dioxide, Glycerin, Cetearyl Olivate, Silica, Yeast Amino Acids, Sorbitan Olivate, Isononyl Isononanoate, Myristyl Myristate, Sucrose Palmitate, Tricalcium Phosphate, Oryzanol, Cetearyl Alcohol, Phenoxyethanol, Isopropyl Myristate, Polyhydroxystearic Acid, Vaccinium Macrocarpon (Cranberry) Seed Oil, Mannitol, Lactic Acid, Yeast Extract, Mica, Sodium Hydroxymethylglycinate, Tocopherol, Carbomer, Isostearic Acid, Stearalkonium Hectorite, Limonene, Morinda Citrifolia Extract, Isopropyl Titanium Triisostearate, Glycogen, Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate, Propylene Carbonate, Citrus Nobilis (Mandarin Orange) Peel Oil, Parfum (Fragrance), Linalool, Laminaria Ochroleuca Extract, Citrus Grandis (Grapefruit) Peel Oil, CI 77492/ CI 77491/ CI 77499 (Iron Oxides).

I think this is a wonderful product, I am hoping that REN will create a version that will cater for dark skin tones too in the future. My only criticism is that mine does have a few large air bubbles in the airless pump, REN has brilliant customer service and said they would take it back, however I want to keep using this before the summer weather completely disappears so am putting up with it for now. So my only advice would be if you are buying it in store to remove it from the outer packaging and check it first to ensure you don't have the same problem.

You can find this BB cream at Love Lula, (it retails at £28 for 50 mls). Have you tried this BB cream, what did you think?

Cult beauty: RMS "un" cover-up Review

RMS uncoverup shade #22 heavily swatched in natural daylight

This cult beauty brand from across the pond has to be one of the most talked about in the green beauty world. Developed by New York based make-up artist Rosa Marie Swift, the brand came about after Rosa Marie developed health problems and discovered that in fact her body was high in toxic substances and heavy metals linked to her work in the beauty industry.

Summer Beauty favourite: Alison Claire Lipbalm

Nothing says summertime to me like citrus scents, lime especially brings back happy memories of Margaritas and and lazy days on the beach. This Alison Claire lip balm* really packs a wonderful zesty citrus punch into this small pot of goodness.

Nourish relax hydrating peptide serum

Serums are one part of my facial routine that tend to get forgotten about often, not because I don't think they are important or because I don't enjoy using them but generally because I am so taken with my beloved facial oils that not many other products tend to get a look in. I have sensitive skin which is very reactive and prone to red patches so this product really appealed to me.
