Mary Elizabeth Nurture balm

I have recently been testing out this lovely Spearmint and Tea Tree balm* from the brand Mary Elizabeth, the product is itself is well worth sharing as it beautiful but the story of why the brand came about in the first place is a powerful read. In 2010 Cecilia the founder of Mary Elizabeth was diagnosed with skin cancer, after treatment she was left with a host of problems after treatment including red irritated and itchy skin and possible scarring. A Solicitor by profession she went on to train in holistic therapies and yoga and through her passion for natural ingredients the line was created. I find this a really interesting story and it shows that in difficult times sometimes people can find their deepest of passions and put them to good use, in this case creating a really wonderful line of products.

All Mary Elizabeth products are free from petrochemicals, sulphates, parabens and synthetic fragrances. What they do include is natural and organic butters, oils and essential oils all packaged in sustainable and minimal packaging that is practical and stylish. Something that really impressed me about the packaging of the products was the labelling, as someone who reads a lot of labels I really liked that both the organic ingredients and potential allergens from natural sources are clearly identified and you can find full ingredients lists for every product on the site, to me it's this kind of attention to detail that sets the brand apart from some of the others I have tried.

The Nurture balm* has a lovely soft, rich texture. When I used it for the first time I was impressed by the fact that it is not at all grainy but silky smooth and a pleasure to use. The ingredients list is a joy to read, it contains Shea butter, olive fruit oil, hemp oil, meadow farm seed oil and avocado oil which makes up a beautifully nourishing multi-purpose balm. It's scented with spearmint, peppermint and tea tree which also makes the balm anti-bacterial and cooling on the skin. The fragrance is light and gentle and not over powering which I find really pleasant.

I have been using this on any areas of dry skin that I have on my body and my skin absolutely drinks this up, my favourite thing to do is to pop some on my hands at night, especially after a day of DIY and gardening my hands have been suffering, this is surprisingly easily absorbed and a pleasure to use, I spend a few minutes massaging it into the nails and cuticles and in the morning I wake up with silky smooth hands.

The rest of the range is quite small but well thought out with a hand and body cream, facial exfoliant and a face cream which all sound equally as lovely as the nurture balm. I highly recommend the brand as I am really drawn to the ethics and ingredients used as well as being really impressed with the performance. You can also find them at the Love Lula Boutique This balm is also a steal at only £6.50 for 15 ml. Have you tried Mary Elizabeth skincare?

  4. I hadn't heard of this brand until now. I like your point about a grainy feel in some balms, Something I don't care for in them. And now I'm off to have a look at the site.
