Salcura skincare review

The green beauty world is bulging with brands but there are not many that cater for specific skin conditions and sensitive skin, I have been testing some products from the brand Salcura recently which I think fill that gap well and I am very pleased to have discovered them.

Salcura is a brand I had spotted in my local health food shop but I hadn't tried before, the products were developed in the 1990's by German bio-scientist Dr Martin Schiele and after a decade of research the range was designed for those wanting a natural alternative to conventional skincare for treating some of the common skin complaints. All the products in the range are mineral oil and paraben free and not tested on animals.

I have suffered with dry skin and patches of psoriasis and although my skin is currently fairly clear these products seemed like they would be perfect in the event of a flare up. The company was kind enough to send me some products for review and here is what I have been testing:

The Salcura bath oil This is a mineral oil free bath oil that would be a great product for anyone suffering from dry skin, I think it would appeal to those wanting to replace something like Oilatum (Which is mineral oil based) in their routine and is suitable for the whole family. The star ingredient is Sea Buckthorn which is known for it's high content of Omega oils and it's ability to heal the skin, it also gives the oil a characteristic orange colour, also included is Safflower, Olive oil and Borage oil, so you know this oil is going to be very nourishing and soothing. This oil doesn't emulsify at all so I found that it was best used quite sparingly to avoid making the bath too slippery, I have been sharing this with my five year old who can sometimes get dry skin too and I wish I had discovered this when he was a baby as this would have been perfect for him. I find that this leaves skin very soft and smooth, the lack of any added fragrance and essential oils makes it ideal for all skin types, when I could see some red patches starting on my knees I used this and it made a big difference from the first use.

The Salcura Hand Hydrator This is such a good hand cream and it packs a real moisturising punch again chock full of those Omegas 3,6,7 and 9, Sea Buckthorn makes another appearance alongside calendula and jojoba. I found you only need a very small amount of this product to make your hands soft, it absorbs well and has a very pleasant light scent which I enjoyed.

The Salcura natural hand-wash This hand-wash has the characteristic orange colour again from the Sea Buckthorn, I found this really left my hands feeling clean and was non-drying but I did find the scent to be a little over whelming for my taste, it has a similar scent to the hand cream but much stronger. The wash is great value for money and a great alternative to regular hand soap. I would love this formula to be available in a less scented or unscented version.

The last item I was sent was a sample size of the Dermaspray Intensive Solution this spray is designed as a remedy for itchy skin conditions, the spray is colourless and very light on the skin when sprayed, it contains a mixture of oils such as tea tree, eucalyptus and manuka alongside some other moisturising ingredients such as Aloe Vera and Sunflower oil. I think this is a great product to have in the first aid cabinet, as I couldn't test it on any skin conditions at the moment I tested it on a rash that I got due to an irritating item of clothing and it certainly helped to stop the itching and calm down the redness. It smells very strongly of tea tree as you can imagine from the ingredients however the smell doesn't linger on the skin.

I think Salcura is a fantastic option for anyone with sensitive skin, the products are well priced and very functional, had I not been introduced to them I would have perhaps bypassed them in a shop due to the plain packaging but I have really enjoyed the products inside so if you are looking for a range for a specific skin condition I would definitely recommend them. The range is available on line or at Boots.

  2. Finally something I can put my Boots loyalty card to again haha. I read another review of these recently and think I might pick some up for myself and my brother who's been using some horrible stuff from the doctor for his eczema!

    1. The packaging definitely isn't the most exciting although my hubby was happy to steal the hand cream as it wasn't as girly as my usual products, but for me it's not my favourite, like the products inside though :) Xx

  4. I've tried these too and was very pleased with them. It's great to see a natural brand aimed at specific skin conditions without all the hydrocortisone and other chemicals that can aggravate the problems they claim to cure. x
