Artisan skincare with AS.AP Apothecary

This week AS.AP which stands for Amanda Sourin Apothecary launched at Content Beauty and I thought it would be the perfect time to introduce this gorgeous line on my blog. I have featured Amanda's previous brand Wellgreen Lewes a few times before and it was a firm favourite but with AS.AP Amanda has created a line that is truly exquisite and altogether more refined compared to anything I have used before.

This is a truly artisan line, the level of craftsmanship involved on Amanda's part truly sets it apart from other brands, she is involved in the whole process of production and uses many ingredients that are wild crafted or that she grows herself but it is her skill of distilling that truly captured my imagination, her copper alembic is a truly beautiful tool and I believe it's this involvement in the whole process that allows Amanda to create truly unique products that enhance well being and allow you to feel for a few moments each day a connection to the earth.

I have been using some gorgeous products from the line and I am truly impressed, they are made with so much care and attention and this really shines through to the final product, you truly feel like you are using something very special.

The cleansing oil #5* (£39 for 25 mls) is such a beautifully light cleansing oil that breaks down all make up with ease including mascara and eye liner, it is very gentle and I found this perfect to use on my sensitive eyes as even after a full days worth of contact lens use there is no stinging or discomfort. The scent is so delicate but at the same time multi-faceted, every time I wash my face this makes me inhale really deeply and take a moment to enjoy. The ingredients list is joyful to read, green beauty lovers will adore this brand for that and the incredible attention to detail, Jojoba oil, castor oil, borage oil, calendula oil and Vitamin E with essential oils of Rose, Bergamot, Labdanum, Clary sage and Benzoin make what is the nicest oil cleanser I have ever used. The bottle is small and I was concerned initially that this wouldn't last long however you really only need a small amount and my bottle is still going strong after weeks of use. I massage this in to dry skin and remove with the beautiful hand crocheted Cleansing cloth(£6) this is made by Anne Seaton in Lewes and is beautiful soft but still offers a gentle exfoliation. After using this combination even my dry skin is left well balanced, bright and needs a lot less moisturiser than usual if any. Some evenings all I use is a small slick of the Lip balm #9* (£12 for 5 mls) with Rose Geranium and Myrrh which has a lovely smooth consistency and light spicy scent thanks to the Myrrh, it leaves my lips smooth and soft in the morning and feels so lovely to use thanks to the cocoa butter, honey and beeswax. The final product I was lucky enough to sample is the Body Butter #5(£43 for 60 mls) Soothing and restorative edition, the scent of this rich butter alone is heavenly a slightly more concentrated version of the cleansing oil scent. I love that there is nothing overpowering or contrived about any of the line, Amanda has made everything so well balanced and to me they represent scents how you would find them in nature. This is my favourite kind of product as it is water free, although undoubtedly pricey I had a sample size of this product and used a small amount at a time due to it's richness but it still left my skin so smooth soft and lightly scented that I became very addicted. Although I test a lot of lovely products I rarely am sad to reach the end of them as I usually move on to something else, but I have been missing this since I scraped out the last of the pot, in fact I will treating myself to a full size very soon. The ingredients are what I would call the hydration heavy hitters of Shea butter and Coconut oil as well as sweet almond oil and Jojoba, I have yet to find a more silky and smooth body product in my time of constant product testing, this is as good as it get's in my opinion.

If you want to know more there is so much to explore on the Website, gorgeous write ups on where the ingredients are harvested and in what conditions as well as a gloriously written features which explains the brands story so much more eloquently than I ever could, AS.AP is one of those brands that takes the shine off trying new products and keeps me coming back for more of it's intricate blends.

Ana x

  1. I first heard about this brand from Seed to Serum and have been coveting their products ever since. I have been enjoying the oil cleansing method for a while now and love to try out their lovely cleansing oil and cloth. Also, their body butters sound absolutely divine! Great review for an equally wonderful sounding brand.

  4. Wonderfully written review Ana =) I've had an eye on this brand since you mentioned them previously as well following them on Instagram. The body butter sounds delightful...I'm currently not applying anything to my body since I've been battling some weird rash that only appears on hands and feet and it occurs most inconsistently that I'm having a hard time pinning it down. I thought it might be a body product I'm applying but the rash still appears albeit on a smaller scale so it must be something else. Anyhoo, body butter sounds lovely, might have to give it a go once I've figured my rash out! xx
