Review: Herbfarmacy Pure hydration serum

I have been testing this Pure Hydration serum* (£24.50 for 15 mls) from Herbfarmacy now for a couple of months, since it's launch in fact, it's no secret I love the brand and their latest product may just prove to be one of my favourites yet. If you are looking for something to add some ooommmph in to your facial routine and especially if you have dehydrated skin this serum is well worth a look.

Like all Herbfarmacy's products it contains high percentages of organic ingredients, the range is certified by the Soil Association and the key ingredients are the Herbs grown on their very own farm in Herfordshire. This serum contains Sodium Hyaluronate which is known for it's ability to hold on to water, it is naturally present in youthful skin and it is a good idea to top up your levels as you get older. Also included is the herb marshmallow which is know for it's softening abilities and biosaccharides which also hold on to moisture. It has a light fluid and slightly creamy texture thanks to the inclusion of shea butter in the formula but overall it is light and non-clogging (highly acne prone skins will want to skip or get sample first).

I apply this every morning on damp skin that I have sprayed with a floral water followed by a small amount of moisturiser with a couple of drops of facial oil. Herbfarmacy don't recommend that you use this underneath a balm or oil as the moisture retaining abilities of the serum may interfere with the absorption of these, as I have very dry skin that is also very sensitive to the elements I use just enough balm or oil to add a cushioning effect and to protect my skin from the cold but I have found that using this serum my skin certainly seems to need less moisturiser which is great. If like me when you come out of the shower your skin can feel tight, this serum will remedy that in seconds without being heavy, so I would recommend especially if your skin is dehydrated but not necessarily dry although it is great if like me your skin is both. Dry skin is lacking oil whereas dehydrated skin is lacking in water, this serum will address both thanks to the ingredients but it is designed to fight mostly dehydration. I had some stubborn patches of skin that were slightly red and flaky across my jaw that have disappeared since using this serum, the scent is light, the ingredients are lovely and it's just a very well formulated organic product.

I don't actually find I need a full pump of this, half is more than enough so despite it's small size I have found it to last a good long while, I don't know how much I have left as you can't see with the airless pump but my bottle is still going strong. One I would recommend with out a doubt, Herbfarmacy have some beautiful products, if you are curious about previous reviews see the search bar on the side there are too many on the blog to link them all!

Do you use a serum?

  1. I love it when bloggers like yourself point out when products might not even right for some skin types. Being prone to acne there are products that aren't great for me but I'm not the best at knowing what those are. X

    1. As it has Shea butter I would test first as it can clog pores for some people, but it is much lighter than your usual Shea butter creams Xx

  5. Sounds like a lovely product and especially useful in the winter months. I love products with sodium hyaluronate in them. Another one to keep an eye on is Yoshimomo's Quench moisturiser which has been my lifesaver this past month (only ordered trial size but have a 60ml put away for when I can order!). Last time I checked there was also a Quench serum which might be great during the summer...always on the look out for products that can provide moisture without leaving my face greasy so will definitely have a closer look at Herbfarmacy's serum. Only serum I use now is Pai's instant calming one in the evenings which is an absolute godsend for my finicky skin! Xx
