Behind the Brand: Pure Natural box

There is a new beauty box on the market and after many have disappointed me, I am pleased to say this one well and truly peaked my interest. Green beauty boxes are hard to find and even harder to curate as it is very hard to please everyone, however I think I have found one that does a great job. After purchasing a box and being delighted with the contents I contacted the founder of Pure Natural box Rebecca Lannon to discuss why she does what she does and her love of green beauty amongst other things:

Can you tell us what is Pure Natural box and why did you create it?

Pure Natural Box is a quarterly discovery box containing 6 natural, organic, paraben and cruelty free products.

I created it because, being a massive beauty product fan I subscribed to the various beauty boxes that are available, only to be disappointed every month when products were presented containing parabens and other undesirable ingredients. I decided that the more health and future conscious amongst us would welcome a monthly beauty box which introduced you to pure, natural and organic products only which are free from the following:

BHA and BHT, coal tar dyes, DEA, cocamide DEA and lauramide DEA, dibutyl phthalate, formaldehyde-releasing preservatives, parabens, parfum, PEGs, petrolatum, siloxanes, sodium laureth sulfate, triclosan.

What is it about natural and organic products that made you pick them for your box?

Organic and green beauty is very important to me as I'm thinking about the future, for me and for my family. My awareness started when a few things happened around the same time at the start of 2015 which led me into the realm of organic.

After starting to learn about ingredients, I didn't want to use most of the products that were coming every month in the beauty boxes I subscribed to because of the bad ingredients, parabens especially. I'm also passionate about not using micro beads due to the impact they are having on the environment and marine life.

I purchased a few organic beauty and skincare products from a new friend who has a business selling organic and natural products after she fought cancer successfully but is now very stringent about what she uses and eats. I had a small health scare myself and just realised I wanted to make changes in my life and my family’s life for the future.

A huge part of Pure Natural Box for me is education. I'm learning everyday about organic, green and natural, I don't think I'll ever stop learning and I'm passionate about educating others to alert them that there is a choice. I hadn't even thought about it myself until the start of 2015, that products my family and I use could be harmful. Yes studies aren't conclusive on everything but even if they 'could' be harmful why would I carry on using them when there are so many other gorgeous products out there which contain only natural and organic ingredients?

My social media accounts talk about a huge range of brands and products, ones that don't feature in my current box or any of the planned future boxes, but I want to make people aware of what is out there and how much better organic is.

What brands have you discovered that you have particularly enjoyed?

Ooh that is a hard question, because I try new products every week and keep finding new ones which are excellent. However, you can tell some of my favourites because those are the ones which I have featured in the boxes. Mimis Organic Skincare, The Rose Tree, Green and Spring, Bodhi & Birch, Green People, Weleda, Botanicals, Southsea Bathing Hut….I could go on, I have many more brands which I love and use a selection of products from their ranges.

How do you decide what brands to include in the boxes?

When I decided to start Pure Natural Box I created a huge list of all possible organic and natural brands, most of who are UK based. In addition to the organic brands and products I was already using I researched each brand to ensure that each one was completely organic and natural. I then started shopping! I try and test many products every week, but only ‘tried, tested and loved’ products are considered for the box.

As Pure Natural Box is a luxury beauty and skincare box I target boutique and luxury brands. I feel its important to support small businesses, I love brands who hand make and hand pour their goods as long as they still have a keen eye for perfection and image.

I speak to the brands and introduce Pure Natural Box and discuss working together. The response has been amazing, most people like my passion and are extremely supportive about the message I'm trying to get out there.

Brands have even begun contacting me now and asking about working together, many have been kind enough to send me a product to try and consider for future boxes.

Pure natural box Edition 2

What can we expect from Pure Natural boxes in the future?

I like to offer different products each time, also ones which are useful in and around the home such as toothpaste and hand wash. I've read people who are sick of receiving hand creams in their beauty boxes, I for one was sick of getting eyeliners in each box when I subscribed to them. Pure Natural Box will always feature different products each time, so you wont be overloaded with the same type of product.

What advice can you share for anyone trying to switch to Natural and organic products?

I'm still a novice at the ingredients lark, I find a lot of it confusing and sometimes don't understand what is what when I read ingredients on the back of packaging. However, I always jump on the company website and look into the brand, most times natural and organic brands and keen to shout about why and how they are natural and organic. They will also list each and every ingredient in each product, stating organic percentages etc. This will give you peace of mind that you are buying correctly.

Any of the brands I mentioned previously would be a great place to start, I can highly recommend them all. Also, purchasing a Pure Natural Box every quarter will allow you to try 6 different products for only £25, I think this is the best piece of advice I can offer because I have done all the hard work for you! :-)

Thank you to Rebecca for telling us a little more about what she does, I love and share her passion and enthusiasm and we share the same taste in many brands. Editions one and three of the box are sadly sold out, but edition two and the men's box is still available to purchase at www.purenaturalbox.com.
