Shaving gel is one of those staple products people use a lot but don’t often think about. If you check the ingredients list of most conventional brands you will find plenty of foaming agents, heavy perfume and other synthetic irritants and that’s before you even get started with the unrecyclable packaging and pumps.
When you consider that shaving is in itself an irritating activity then you can see why these products can be so problematic. For some time I have just used shower gel as a shave gel, depending on the shower gel it can work rather well, but if you are after a product specifically made for the job I have just the thing for you.
Dr Bronner’s is one of the original green beauty brands hailing from the US, I have featured quite a few of their products before and the All in one magic soaps in particular have been a staple for household cleaning for years. Dr Bronner’s is a brand that truly champions organic and clean beauty, the ingredients are all simple and the products very functional and practical. The Organic Shaving soap (£7.60 for 207 ml) come in three varieties, Lemongrass and Lime, Tea Tree and unscented. I wasn’t too sure when I received this whether it would manage to convince me that I needed yet another product in my bathroom cabinet, but this is surprisingly good at it’s job and great value as you get a very dense foam from only a small amount of product. You can get a very close shave with no irritation which I really liked. I use it on my body but I will be purchasing an unscented version for my husband to use on his face as well. The Lemongrass and lime scent is fresh and is underpinned by a sweetness which comes from the organic sugar in the formula. It also contains organic olive oil, coconut oil, hemp oil and jojoba, making it nourishing and non-stripping on the skin. If you find, as I do, that the all in one soaps are a little too drying on the skin, don’t be put off from trying this as I find I don’t have the same issue at all.
A great basic product at a great price, if you are looking for products to start out making the natural switch or simply to add products in to your current stash, Dr Bronner’s is one of the best brands you could choose.
