Latest in Beauty – Build your own box December

Although I like to shop in stores that make natural and organic their USP, these days you can find lot’s of natural products in places that perhaps you wouldn’t expect. I first discovered Latest in Beauty a few years ago and I like the concept. It’s an online store that creates collections of beauty products so you can discover products from up and coming or well established brands. I don’t often shop the pre-made collections as most of the time they are not exclusively “natural” or “green” but I have been a big fan of the “Build your own box” selection for some time and it has introduced me to some fabulous brands.

Currently there is quite a large selection of beauty products on the site, including a nice little natural/organic selection. In December I took a peek at some of the products on offer and I couldn’t resist creating my own beauty box. You have two options when it comes to the boxes, you can subscribe to a monthly box with either 3, 6 or 9 products of your choice or you can create a one off box. The difference between the two is that the one off box will include postage and packaging charges. I chose the six item option as a subscription safe in the knowledge that if one month the natural/organic options are more limited then I can always unsubscribe. Six items comes in at a very reasonable £15, you will see from the options I have chosen that the value of the items is much, much higher than that, making it great way to find new products, especially if you are just switching over.

It goes without saying not all of the brands will be suitable for everyone  (this can be said for any website, even those with a natural/organic USP) so knowing your brands is quite important when shopping on the site. Your first box comes with a cosmetic bag included. I personally would have preferred not to have it, but as I received it I will put it to good use. After that the products come in just the outer box and tissue paper.

Here is my December selection, sadly not all the options I chose are still available, but there is still plenty of natural brands to choose from:

Be Happy Therapy Balm – Scentered (Worth £14.50) I am a big fan of these portable aromatherapy balms, great for popping in your handbag or keeping at your desk at the office. Be Happy is a mix of grapefruit, lemon myrtle and spearmint, it is as the name would suggest bright and cheerful. I apply to the inside of my wrists and inhale whenever I need a pick me up, this will come in particularly handy in January.

Lip Crayon in Niagara Overlook – Burt’s Bees (Worth £8.99) If you are looking for a natural alternative to the Clinique chubby sticks, these are a nice choice. This natural formula has a good amount of pigment, nice shades and is perfect for throwing in your handbag. Niagara Overlook is a neutral tone, slightly darker than my own lip colour but they had several shades to choose from. Burt’s Bees has a parent company for those of you concerned with cruelty free status.

Bath Salts for inner cleansing – Ila Spa (Sample size) Ila are a natural spa brand made in the Cotswolds, I haven’t tried these yet, but I bet they will be good as they smell phenomenal. The full size tub is £49 so an expensive mistake to make if you don’t enjoy them. I will probably get two baths out my pot.

Skinfood – Weleda (Worth £6.95) A cult classic, this is one of my all time favourite products. A think multi-purpose cream that can be used lot’s of different ways I always have a few of these on hand at any one time.

Nourishing night time treatment – AD Skin Synergy (Generous sample size) I have had this oil before and really like it. It’s a blend of plant and essential oils and really perks up the skin. The bottle is a very generous 15 ml, so will last a while and is also perfect for travel.

Hand and Nail cream – Benecos (Worth £2.95) Benecos is a great budget friendly natural brand, I have explored quite a few of the make up items but not many of the skincare products so I was happy to see this hand cream in the selection. You get a full sized tube in the Orange scent, I haven’t opened it yet, but I am looking forward to testing it.

I am really pleased with what I have chosen, I think it’s great for anyone who wants to try products without making big financial commitments. I have seen some other boxes that are retailing at twice the monthly price for similar amounts of products, the problem with getting boxes that are a “surprise” in terms of their content is that some months you are going to be disappointed and some items won’t be suitable. I personally dislike paying too much when you can’t pick your own items and tend to stick with subscriptions like the Love Lula box which is always good value. With Latest in Beauty you can upgrade or downgrade your subscription at any time, depending on the selection available too which is handy, meaning that if one month the choices are more limited you can downgrade. Three of the products I chose are also vegan, with more available on site. I hope they keep up the natural selection on the site so I can keep receiving this box every month but I will report back when it comes to making next months choices. For now you can take a look at what’s available at Are you tempted? Did you know Latest in beauty had natural products?
