Discovering new and upcoming brands is one of my favourite things but as the natural skincare market is increasing at a very fast pace which can make spotting brands that are ticking the right boxes tricky. Today I am sharing some products an upcoming artisan brand that uses African botanical ingredients and a capsule skincare range.
Khulisa skincare is a brand I discovered a few months ago and it instantly peaked my interest. There are currently two signature products to choose from; Janine the founder grew up in sunny South Africa and developed pigmentation on her face, so the brand started out with her formulating products to help her own skin and has developed from there.
Both of the products in the range are beautifully formulated, they are entirely oil based but the blend of oils is light enough to be suitable for all skin types. Both products are a real treat to use, nourishing and soothing great for a simple but effective routine. Both the products are packaged in protective and sleek miron glass bottles.
Nourishing oil cleanser (£30 for 50 ml) – This cleanser can be used to remove make up and deep cleanse the skin, I however prefer to go in with a cheaper cleanser first and use this as a second cleanse. It also works beautifully as a morning cleanse, especially at the weekend when I have a little more time to spend massaging the skin. I use around four pumps of oil, I experimented with less but found that my skin was too thirsty and drank up the product too easily, so four seems to be the magic number for good slip. The cleanser has a gorgeous fruity and floral scent, not too heavy but just enough so you experience it whilst applying.
The blend of oils in the cleanser feel light but leave the skin feeling very comfortable. The ingredients are very interesting; you have Paw Paw seed oil, Kalahari Melon oil, safflower, Moringa, avocado and Vitamin E. Essential oils of lavender, Ylang Ylang and sweet orange give a beautiful calming scent. If you are using this as your only cleanser I think it will need to be replenished fairly regularly, depending on how often you are using I would say that this bottle wouldn’t last longer than four to six weeks. The cleanser doesn’t have any emulsifiers, so you need a warm cloth (a lovely cloth is provided with the cleanser) to remove it properly this also gives a gentle exfoliation. I like to reach for this when I want to treat my skin, the ingredients made my skin soft and it felt replenished and balanced, a lovely product that delivers on it’s promises.
Facial Radiance serum (£46 for 30 ml) – The serum was a winner of the Beauty Shortlist Editor’s choice award. Just like the oil cleanser it feels lovely and light when applied and sinks in easily, it has a blend of ten plant oils designed to repair the skin. Kalahari melon oil, camellia, Marula, baobab, passion fruit, avocado oil, borage, rosehip and Sea Buckthorn all feature. Despite the fact that the serum has quite a lot going on, it was brilliant on my sensitive skin, calming redness and leaving a velvety finish on the skin. It is a great base for make up and works day and night time.
My love of oil based serums has been well documented on this blog, whilst there is a trend for brands delivering very expensive oils, Khulisa is bucking the trend by delivering a beautiful blend and also great value for money. For anyone with a passion for ingredients Khulisa delivers a lovely mix of beneficial plant oils. There is lot’s to like about both the brand and the products and I look forward to seeing what the brand develops next.
