Over the years my love of facial oils has been well documented. When I heard one of my favourites, the Desert Rose Facial oil by Bodhi Birch was going to be reformulated I was curious how the blend would perform. If you don’t know Bodhi and Birch, they are an eco-luxe brand based in the UK, specialising in natural and organic skincare and body care. My previous review of this product was quite a few years old now, so I thought it was time for an update.
The new blend Desert Rose facial oil (£38 for 15 ml) has a really refined and light texture. Featuring argan oil, rosehip oil and prickly pear seed oil as the first three ingredients. These oils are packed with essential fatty acids, but prickly pear seed oil in particular is very rich in Vitamins E and K. Also included is starflower and evening primrose oils, I was particularly interested to hear that starflower oil can help restore the skins moisture barrier, something I know I struggle with as my skin has a big tendency to be dehydrated.
I was particularly pleased to see prickly pear seed oil as an addition to this product, it is an oil which I know my skin loves and has wonderful anti-oxidant properties. The overall blend feels light but nourishing on the skin and the ingredients leave skin texture refined and renewed. Bulgarian Rose Otto is one of the most expensive and prized essential oils used in skincare, I love it for the exquisite scent and its calming properties. It does however have its own skincare properties beyond the scent, including helping skin to regenerate.
This blend is a little bit like an old friend, as one of the first facial oils I tried, I have loved having it back in my routine. I personally prefer to use it as a night time facial oil, it works especially well for facial massage in conjunction with a tool like a jade roller. The experience of using it is as important to me as the results and this product doesn’t disappoint with either. The scent is something really special and really calms the mind.
I think this facial oil offers good value for money, especially when compared to other similar high end products. The oil is housed in miron glass to protect the precious contents and the oil itself lasts several months with regular use. This product is also a favourite with actress Sienna Miller.
If you haven’t tried any products from Bodhi and Birch, I would also recommend their bath and shower therapies. One of my current favourites for an evening shower is the calming camomile sky, but the whole range is wonderful.
