When I was contacted by Birchbox about a limited edition Going Green beauty box, being completely honest I didn’t have particularly high expectations; mainly because green edits done by beauty box companies can often be a bit boring, featuring the same brands and products. However, I am really pleased to be proven wrong. This little kit is really great value, packed with some really interesting items many of which aren’t readily available in the UK usually. Mine arrived yesterday, so this is obviously an unboxing and first impressions, but I wanted to share it with you whilst they are still in stock as I think they will fly.
The products all come in a gorgeous organic cotton bag created in collaboration with eco accessories brand Numero Sept. The palm print is gorgeous and the generous size of the bag makes it really useful for travel. I think the fact that they decided to put this edition in a bag, rather than another disposable box is fantastic.
The products themselves are a mix of full and generous travel sizes, many items are also suitable for vegans, but a few include beeswax in the ingredients. Overall a really impressive selection:
Absolution cream cleanser (full size) – The retail price of this cleanser is almost as much as the green edit itself, so you know you are getting a great deal. The cleanser is a nice thick cream with a light herbal scent and it leaves the skin feeling clean and refreshed.
Labote The perfect glove (full size) – A lovely inclusion in the edit, this is a bamboo cleansing glove, perfect for a really deep cleanse. This is so extremely soft, it works wonderfully with the cleanser. I loved this, so useful.
Ho Karan The Morning Miracle Anti-Fatigue Eye booster (full size) – I was pleasantly surprised with this eye booster featuring hemp as its star ingredient, whilst I can’t comment on its claims to tackle dark circles I can say it is absolute joy to apply and you can feel it smoothing and softening the eye area. It is also always lovely to try a brand that is completely new to me.
We Love the Planet deodorant (full size) – This is a cream based deodorant that smells incredible. It has bicarbonate of soda, so I expect it to work really well for me. I will update on this one when I have had more of a chance to try it.
Dr Haushka body wash – A perfect size for your gym or travel bag, I don’t think you can go far wrong with Dr Hauschka products. This natural beauty pioneer has been around for years and these creamy body washes are free from sls/sles and other harsh foaming agents for a superior shower experience.
Lov organic tea – This sweet little packet of organic tea is a welcome addition, the teabags themselves are made from muslin cloth, so no nasty plastic film. I look forward to trying these.
Dr Bronner’s Pure Castille soap – Dr Bronner’s is a staple for many of us and this peppermint soap bar smells beautiful. If you are not familiar with Dr Bronner’s they make a range of multi-purpose solid or liquid soaps, perfect for cleaning your make up brushes, washing your hands or body, I also love the liquid soaps for cleaning the house.
Avril eye pencil in bronze (full size) – I really rate Avril, it is a budget friendly brand and has some great products. I really like the fact they included a different colour pencil in the edit, so often you get black in these boxes. I am so far really impressed with this, the staying power is good and I love the colour, really wearable.
Lamazuma solid toothpaste (full size) – I get more and more requests for natural products that are zero waste, so I was excited to see this as an addition to the box. I will do a full review of this when I have had a chance to test it, but I can say it smells beautiful and minty and comes with nothing but compostable packaging.
Nailmatic Lavender Nail polish remover (full size) – This is one of those easy to use nail varnish remover pots, you pop your finger in and twist it for a few seconds and all your polish is removed. This worked brilliantly and the remover itself has a lovely scent, I was very impressed.
Manucurist Natural Nail polish (full size) – This is a beautiful red polish, made from 84% natural ingredients. Free from formaldehyde, toluene, camphor and all the usual ingredients to avoid in nail polish. The polish applies beautifully and is really glossy, I can’t wait to see how well it wears on me!
I was so impressed with this selection, I love that Birchbox are championing green beauty in this edit and I would love to see more limited editions like this one from them. Birchbox have added an “Ingredient conscious” section to their website, which you can find here. Whilst the selection won’t be for you if you are a purist, you can pick up lots of familiar brands such as REN, Caudalie and Balance Me as well a selection of vegan brushes and more niche brands such as Absolution, so overall a nice touch and great if you are just starting to look at natural alternatives. The Going Green Edit is priced at £39 (with a product value of £86!) and you can find it here.
