I am incredibly lucky that I get to test so many wonderful brands and every now and again I totally fall in love with a product. That is exactly how I feel about this Velvet Skin Elixir, the nourishing ingredients really suit my skin and it is a gorgeous addition to my night time routine. I met Zane Piese, the founder of Atlantis skincare, last year when I was invited to the Formula Botanica conference (read about that here). Getting to know the people behind the products is one of my favourite things about blogging, there are so many passionate people pushing the industry forward. Zane discovered a passion for cosmetics whilst working for another brand and decided to further her knowledge and study the subject, including completing her qualifications with Formula Botanica. Zane says:
“My love for nature and plants began when I was a little girl. I grew up in the beautiful country side of Latvia, spending my days in blooming meadows and green forests, collecting herbs and learning about their healing properties. My first teacher was my mum, a doctor of traditional medicine, who used natural herbal remedies to heal her patients.”
I find myself increasingly overwhelmed by the amount of new products and brands available on the market. Knowing what to test and what to leave is sometimes a hard task. Atlantis skincare caught my eye because the branding is distinctive and different from a lot of other natural ranges on the market. The Velvet Night Elixir kept my attention with it’s beautiful ingredients list, it was a product I knew I had to try.
Velvet Skin night Elixir – Is an incredibly sophisticated night balm. Packed full of rare butters and oils, it has a light airy feel and melts immediately in to a luxurious oil on contact with the skin. Although wonderfully nourishing and cocooning on the skin, the Velvet skin night elixir sinks in, leaving no residue unlike other balms on the market. I instantly feel in love with the beautiful scent, it is floral but with an underlying chocolate like sweetness which I love. There is no beeswax, making the night elixir suitable for vegans. It is what I would class a luxury price point, however for me it has surpassed similar products I have tried in terms of effectiveness, some of which retail for higher prices.
The ingredients list is gorgeous; 64% organic and featuring white poppy seed oil, cocoa butter, Murumuru seed butter, Capuacu, tomato seed oil and raspberry seed oil. The results on my skin where really lovely, it deeply replenishes the skin, leaving it softer, smoother and calms inflammation and redness. The addition of calming ingredients such as oat oil helps with my sensitive skin but the product still feels utterly luxurious and indulgent, which lets be honest a lot of products aimed at sensitive skin do not.
This product is suitable for all skin types, but I would highly recommend it if like me you are mid to late thirties (and beyond) and looking for products to really deeply nourish, but also calm the skin and fight inflammation, which can accelerate the signs of ageing. I apply over my water based serums every evening, and wake up with skin that is smooth, even toned and calmer than when I went to bed. If I miss an application, my skin ends up looking a little dull and lacklustre. I have fallen in love with this beautiful elixir, I love everything about it.
