Kjaer Weis pressed powder – Refillable, luxury make up

Kjaer Weis Pressed powder

Refillable make up and eco-friendly packaging are a huge topic right now – I wrote a whole post on the topic which you can find here. In my opinion no brand does refillable packaging better than Kjaer Weis, an eco-luxury brand founded by New York based make up artist Kirsten Kjaer Weis. Kjaer Weis is one of the original brands to use packaging that is refillable and is certainly the only brand I can think of that does it with such elegance.

Being a brand that is founded by a makeup artist, Kjaer Weis has always had a beautiful colour palette and good shade range. I love the lip tints as a daily light wash of colour is flattering shades, the lipsticks are much bolder and the cream blushes give a healthy flush to any look. It is a brand I have loved and used for many years, they were so forward thinking for the time they launched!

The pressed powder sits in a beautiful and sturdy metal compact. I love these compacts, they feel so special to receive, but I think it is worth pointing out that they are quite heavy, so not the most travel friendly. If I am taking any Kjaer Weis products with me on a trip or in a handbag I tend to pop them in a magnetic palette for ease. When you have finished your powder and it is time to refill the compact you can do so by simply using a pin to remove the pan through the hole in the back of the compact. Refills are significantly more budget friendly than paying for the product with the refillable packaging, so whilst it is clearly an initial investment, keeping your products topped up then becomes much more reasonable.

The pressed powder is very light on the skin and easy to apply, containing a variety of botanicals. The base is rice powder, with argan and sunflower oils to nourish the skin. I was interested to read, that whilst the ingredients list mentions talc, this is a possible impurity in the minerals rather than something that has been purposefully added to the formulation. Personally I like to avoid talc where possible, so I was happy to hear it isn’t in this powder in high amounts.

You can apply to any areas of concern to take down shine, or all over the face to set make up. It gives a slightly soft focus finish on the skin and helps keep make up in place longer. The powder is translucent, so should be suitable for all skin tones and it isn’t chalky or heavy. It sits beautifully on skin, taking down shine, whilst still letting a slight healthy glow come through.

You can shop the Kjaer Weis powder at Jolie, who ship internationally. The Kjaer Weis pressed powder* retails at £44 and refills* cost £27.
